Stephen Matthews
Stephen Matthews is the principle Yacht Designer at Ocean Yacht Design. Steve, born in 1970, grew up surfing and fishing the local waters around Stuart Florida where his love for the ocean, waterways and boats began. At a young age he developed a passion for architecture and drafting plans which led to winning the gold medal at the 1988 V.I.C.A. state architectural drafting competition representing Martin County High School his senior year.
After living and surfing in Puerto Rico, commercial fishing in Alaska and taking some college courses he continued this passion in custom yacht design. Steve has 25 years of professional yacht design experience working alongside many industry pioneers and extremely talented craftsmen. He began his yacht design career in 1994 and worked intermittently at Applied Concepts Unleashed where he was V.P. of Yacht Design up until 2010.
Steve was also an O.M.C. test pilot from 1995 to 1997 where he had the opportunity to run many different vessels and find every sandbar on the Treasure Coast. From 1997 to 1999, while working at Espinosa Yacht Design, he started working with CAD and honed his interior space planning skills. From 2010 to 2013 he was owner and president of Matthews Yacht Design.
Since then he has been with Ocean Design Group and evolving into Ocean Yacht Design serving clients and builders of fine custom sportfishing yachts.
While not pushing buttons Steve enjoys cycling and spending time with his family on the water. His wife Tammy is a private chef, daughter Morgan is an artist and college student, son Marlin is the musician of the family and high school student. Stepdaughter Tara Biber along with her daughter Olivia and stepson Roby Biber all make him proud.
Steve is in constant pursuit of perfection while currently designing some of the smoothest riding, fastest, most efficient rough-water sea boats available today.
Bob Mormile
Bob Mormile, a visionary multi-business owner and founder of Ocean Yacht Design, LLC, is a licensed boat captain. His relentless passion for fishing has escalated him through the years from being a production fishing boat owner, to an intense captain that continues to push the limits in custom boat building and design. Though Bob’s commitment for fishing is evident, his accomplishments outside the world of fishing are impeccable.
As a distinguished business owner of 35 years, he has created three full service companies serving the packaging industry under one suite, VT Group. The VT Group is a design and manufacturing company for the P.O.P display industry that can service many needs. Currently, Bob is well represented in the packaging industry as an innovative risk taker with an all about the customers' approach.
Bob also owns a full service custom cabinet and design company called Forte Interiors, Design, Build. This company services very high end customers and their building needs. Forte also designs and builds high end yacht furniture and cabinetry.
He is also a licensed pilot that and has a passion for flying. Bob’s training as a pilot, which reinforces attention to details, along with checks and balances, has carried through to his design and manufacturing processes. His recent presence with Ocean Yacht Design has already escalated quality to the highest level. Bob is committed to making sure each project is done to the customers’ needs and timelines, and in the most efficient way possible.
Ocean Yacht Designs Principle designer is Steve Matthews. Bob first met Steve when Steve worked for Applied Concepts. Steve was the head Designer assigned to Bob’s first custom build Project. Bob was very impressed by Steve’s knowledge and passion for the yacht design/ build process. Steve was always attentive to Bobs needs as the customer and always exceeded his expectations.
As their relationship grew, Bob saw a lot of similarities in how Steve’s passion for the Yacht Design Industry followed his own. Bob offered Steve a full-time position with his team in 2013. Steve accepted the position to Design Yachts under the Ocean Design group. Over the years, the yacht design business grew substantially and Bob decided to open a completely separate division call Ocean Yacht Design, LLC.
With the Yacht Design expertise of Steve Matthews, and Bob’s passion for the process, customers needs will surely be met or exceeded.
